Seriously, I’ve been waiting months to get in the mood for a winter mix. Usually I have these done by mid-December. There’s just no friggin’ snow in this city, and it is totally pathetic.

Today I learned that I’ve been using “refute” incorrectly.
However, in all other grammatical ways, I am just about flawless.

Holy fuck, how did they get the spelling right?
D’you think they were maybe ripping off this dress? Either way, I am eerie’d.

I’ve installed the Scrabble app on my phone. There’s no chat function, except in rare circumstances, so while it’s a program entirely based around interaction with another human, that interaction is reduced to smoke signals, silent plays, single-word gestures. I know nothing about my opponent other than his grasp of the language, his triple-letter-score savvy, his grid-expansion...

I’m still mulling over the implementation of a stop-motion-thingie in jQuery. I don’t have the time to code-dig right now (as I’m balls-deep in some other jQuery UI stuff for a Wordpress theme) but there are a few things I need to know:
- How can I parse the number of files in a given directory?
- How can I parse the dimensions of a given image?
Once I get these values I can...

Platonic ideal music sites
(file under brainjuice. Hopefully, I’m gonna be starting a thing that covers at least 75% of this soon.)
rawkblog:
I am personally interested in seeing:
1) Long, thoughtful criticism/feelings/essays/interviews
2) Unique/beautiful videos/photos
3) Unearthed out-of-print LPs
4) Songs no one is talking about (read: songs not on Pitchfork, etc.)
Let’s make a list of sites that do this...

In my dream I had biked to someone’s apartment building, not to see them, but because there was some reference to a certain song in their lobby, and I had been Googling the song, and decided to go there. It was packed with people, on a busy street, and when I bothered to look back out the window I saw that the police had taken away my free-locked, parking-spot-occupying bicycle. The street...

The other thing I’ve been thinking about is media inaccessibility. I’m thinking about writing a virus that would take over Youtube and rewrite all the videos based on the number of views each had. The more popular a video, the more destruction would be evident, the more garbled the audio, the more pixellated the screen. The most popular things (viral shit, Beyonce videos,...

I copyedited a book of short stories, and now it’s on sale. (And they put my name real big on the cover like, which is kinda weird for me. Thanks, Steevo!)
Buy the book! (Paperback now, digital soon.)

So I’ve been working in retail again. All I can think of is how idiotic the environments are. The way people approach space, move about within it, interpret the things they see, interact with what’s there… I just want to spend my paid hours face-palming.
I want to install a system of presence sensors at each display that will automatically turn up the volume of those with...

In my dream last night I had a tall, skinny goth boyfriend and kissing him was amazing. The first time he lifted me up so my feet were on top of his.

December’s probably the best musical month of the year. Every year people release their best-of lists a little earlier, which lets me in on about 30 albums I missed at the time of their respective releases. My year-end list used to get published just after the new year started, but, without even that deadline anymore, my list is going to be, by far, the most well-reasoned and articulate of...

I just spent my first five dollars on Bandcamp! Yay!
(These ladies I do not know but I found them because their record label is from my home-bi-county-area and it turns out good music comes from there sometimes!)

I have definitely never dreamt about wrapping on a sari and doing a Bollywood dance, before last night.
Now why do I feel so hungover?

I’ve got an awesome gimmick for a series of music criticism: I’m gonna call it Taking Things Literally, and it’s going to be about obtuse song and album titles.
That Kramer album, Let Me Explain Something To You About Art, I’m gonna sit down at a desk with a notebook and press play on the album and take studious lecture notes. Susan Christie’s Paint A Lady? I’m...
